Jim Matheos on the upcoming tour...
(posted on the www.fateswarning.com message board)
Good news: It's official, we'll be opening for Dream Theater and Queensryche on this summer's tour.
Bad news: Due to prior personal commitments Mark Zonder will not be able to be with us. Substitute soon to be announced.
Good news: We will be joined on stage by non other than Frank X Aresti!
Lastly, I'd like to personally and publicly thank Mike Portnoy for making this happen. Thanks buddy!

Hey thraxhead,
You know enough of the horrific blunder or as I call it a "lack- luster" of a "cluster fuck". This is becoming a bad mid-morning soap opera and I think as you do, that with all good or bad intensions we being huge FW fans we can do better. Personally this FW Guest Book and Fates themselves deserve alot better.
Finally, You and I have something in common which is the passionate joy and love for Fates Warning and great poets/writers.
...Robert Frost was and still is great, but I have to say and so does Jim, Ernest Hemingway cuts the cake for me. Alot of my and Jim's lyrical influences come from the influence of Hemingway. He writes about the big picture, but for everyone who read his work we all could have a different outlook on the end result.
I recommend the book, "Islands In The Stream". Here's my spin on a funny quote of the day that I like to with people..."Destiny is how we percieve it to be, but what if the person has terrible vision."

I can't even think of competing with Sal's intelligence and quick wit. And I love his command of the English language as well.
I hang in anticipation of each of his hyperbolic utterances. Robert Frost who?

Hey Sal,
Get your head out of your ass!!! Your comment about Portnoy being a Neil Peart rip-off is insane. I am a huge fan of both these guys, but Portnoy has shown how much more diverse a player he can be with such side-projects as LTE and Transatlantic. Portnoy did not even copy Pearts drum parts exactly on the Rush tribute CD. He did his own thing and yet remained true to the spirit of the songs.

Telling someone that they were probably choking on a shitcake, and calling them a dickhead is intelligent? You are a hypocrite and an ignorant one at that. The only thing anyone is choking on are your ridiculous words. They are so childish I can't believe you are a fates fan. Enough space wasted on you, and fuck you for even mentioning my friend when you have made a joke of his death.. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Sal,
I am responding in an uneducated way? Look at your pathetic posts again. You also need to check your own posts for spelling errors before you correct someone else's grammar.. meant is not ment.. Just the fact that you would even attempt to make any kind of sarcastic or jab statement regarding such a tragedy shows what a pathetic waste of space you are. Justify your statement all you want, I am convinced you are a flake and a clueless one at that. Bring it on all you want, you are an ass..

Hey t-head! Sal here...In your above response next time would you please not get yourself so worked up. Your comments do not amuse me, talk to me not anyone else. Please do us all a favor. Before you post if your going to respond to anyone, talk to them in the first person description and check your grammar. You forgot to put in the "into" after the turning it. Maybe you were choking on a "shitcake". Hah Fruitcake!
By the way thraxhead, what in the sam hell is thraxhead. Oh! I get it, It's your way of trying to be a genius. Anthrax head. Hmmm! It's been a long-long winter for those guys, they're washed up.
Finally, "thraxhead" as you call it. First, if it means so much to you shouldn't you capitalize the "T"? No! I got it. Hey, Fuck it! Change it completely and start over. How about..."Dick Head", this way it fits you so nicely and both words are capatalized.
Take some "P" (pussy) ointment and rub it on the hole that hurts the most you pussy.

"Hey Jim and Fans around the world, I have a great idea! From what I here the drummer from "Great White" is looking for a job. I heard he's a hot and smokin' drummer. HAHAHAHA!"
and then Sal posted again:

I fail to see how Sal's original comment explained everything he tried to cram in response, as it was quite evident he was pushed back on his heels a bit. I actually thought the original comment was mildly amusing, all of which disappeared upon reading reading his "explanation" or "justification" or any other neat little euphamism one can throw into the shitcake.
And worst of all, he tried turning it some kind of political argument! Holy Clueless, Batman!

Rick Marino of (Ocean Seven),
"In the life and times today, Below is a common sense approach to start thinking in a better way..."
Being a professional musician myself, I believe living in this great country and we musicians have to be greatful that we can freely travel as we please for the most part. Thanks to a large part, our government and military. In times like this we musicians should sit back and take a few seconds to be proud whether we all agree politically or not. Today my fellow musician friends, that in it of itself does not matter in life and times today.
...A Life Of A Musician: Travel (By bus, plane, etc.), Meet new people everyday (In resturants, hotels, resorts, live venues, trade shows and oh' yes even those, "goddamn rat-bastard, blood suckin' promoters", etc.
So my fellow musicians, We are very blessed to live in such a great country. When you think that we have it bad remember, those places you've traveled where the only thing that those people (fans) had was a venue to come and gather, with little or no money to see and support our music and our "egotistical pains in the asses".
...If things would have been different, you never know instead of a musician you could be that person who wishes someday he or she could be one of us. Just remember look in the mirror.

Hello Dave,
Sal here...Dave did you even read my message before you decided to post? Hah! Not one mention of anyone in that fire, friend or foe. Apparently you have a problem looking outside the box, your just like all those other "left-wing" sounding liberals who's opinion about a message or a subject in response, absolutely has no substance.
Dave, Actually instead of asking me what did mean by that you decided to respond in a very uneducated way. Furthermore, I actually think that those who was at the GW show were all innocent and helpless and yes everyone saw or heard what happened and just as you, we all feel for them and there loved ones.
My statement that I made was 100% directed towards, the ignorance of first, Great White for even trying to attempt to use that shit in such a not so big club. Second, the owner and promoter are fucking morons and need to be out of the club scene completely. Finally, the management, promoter and oh' yes Great White should be held accountable and prosecuted to the full extent.
So Dave, nextime look outside the box, being a Fates fan I don't think your giving yourself enough credit. It has been weeks since that post and you've been the only one that saw it that way. Sir, I will not apologize for the sake of what I ment and Dave, I'm sure your friend is looking down and appreciates someone like you.
...Your friend from above was looking down and knew what I ment when I posted that statement.
Posted by Sal @ 04/22/2003 11:54 AM PST
Hey Sal you ignorant asshole.. I happened to lose a friend in the fire that you made a joke of.. Your comment was one of the most tasteless and ignorant comments I have ever read..Think before you speak as you are capable of hurting people with your supposedly funny words.. Fuck you..

Sal you are completely right on so many levels about Zonder being secure and us just hoping for the best. I'll be at the L.A show regardless. We should also let it rest - why should 2 FW fans argue so badly, which i will take blame for being a pain in the ass. there are so few FW fans out there that they, in my mind, are like a brotherhood of sorts. Also, this is the 2nd time you've mentioned your thoughts about that unjust war taking place on the other side of the globe... so for Progressive news, i highly suggest www.commondreams.org to all you fellow critical thinkers out there. Peace

Anthony, Sal here...I never said it would be a disappointment if Mark wasn't playing. I'm a huge FW fan and they will forever be one of my biggest influences on my music career and only the FW era with Mark.
See everyone thinks because Mark decided well before hand to Jim's news about the tour that if Mark doesn't do this that oh Mark like Steve and other musicians are now on the outside lookin' in that they have to decide between personal business and playing.
Unlike any other band member in FW, if FW was to call it quits today or any other future date that Mark will be the most secured financially and any other category you could think of. Why you ask? Because, his smart business choices away from FW.
Example; Mark's professional recording/rehearsal studio in North Hollywood, CA., "Bill's Place". So, Anthony in a perfect world it would be great not to go to war in Iraq just as it would be great to see Mark playing along side of Joey Vera and hearing that great FW rythymn section holding down the fort. Meanwhile Jim, Frank and Ray are melodicly weaving a symphonic web with taste and perfection.
Just as you Anthony, I can only hope for the best. Let's just you and I let it rest, and in the words of Fates Warning, I have "Nothing Left To Say".

I must have died and gone to heaven! Fates/Dream/Queensyrche tour is a dream come true. It would be great if Mark could join them. Maybe Kevin will play a tune with Dream or maybe Joe Dibiase a tune with fates .... it doesn't hurt to hope. I hope all fans come and support this awesome tour so it could go longer!
Posted by Brian from Puerto Rico @ 04/15/2003 07:37 AM PST
Sal, lets continue to feud so that this circa 1990's FW line-up about to tour in the year 2003 wont seem so silly. Be quiet with your defense of Mark Zonder moving instead of playing - it's a dissapointment, admit it!
Posted by Anthony Nieto @ 04/12/2003 08:22 PM PST
Queensryche .... prepare to be blown off the stage.
Again.

Anthony, "The Portnoy Groupie"
It sounds as though Anthony is sleeping with Mike Portnoy, Please stay tuned.
I'm not going to be ignorant and stoop to down to your level. First of all, Mark has a family and resides in Long Island. If you are so concerned then why don't you go to the profiles section at www.Warlord.ws and you'll find that out.
Second of all, Mark and his wife made plans to move out to SF well in advance, Like 3 months ago. Hmmm! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that just recently Jim made it official.
I also live on the east coast and if you have been following along this winter has been brutal. You don't move furniture as you call it in the dead of winter just to please a selfish so called fan as yourself.
I take it you have No Life and No Family. Your mother must be real proud of you. Finally, the comment about Portnoy...You obviously have a computer, why don't you Email Mike and ask him if he grew up listening to Mark Zonder in Warlord, FW and oh for all you so called research geniouses. Before Mark was asked to join FW by Jim to be the new drummer for Fates he was in one of biggest 80's pop-rock bands of all time, Animotion.
So for Mark and his future let's just say he's been working with some big game players in between Fw albums and a shortened Warlord tour do to an accident to the singer. He has been asked to play drums with some great musicians...
Hey Anthony! I'll bet you would like to know, HAH?
From now on if you are not on the inside and a best friend and or a pro musician that knows, then I would research your facts or put a "Scud Missile" in your trap and shut up.
Posted by Sal @ 04/07/2003 12:31 PM PST
oh, mark zonder cant make it because he'll be moving - well in that case i'm not dissapointed anymore. whoever attempts to fill in on drums will be just fine now
I'll just visualize that mark zonder is moving furniture and it'll be as good as him being there.
Thank you, almighty fates warning-board genius for that remedy for dissapointment.
i heard a rumor that mark cant make it because he is in jail due to using the alias "mike portnoy," to escape the country, apparently. any truth to that, Sal?
Chroma Key is the best band ever!
Posted by Anthony Nieto @ 04/06/2003 10:37 AM PST
Hey there! FW - absolutely the best band for me, but i`ve never seen them on tour and i probably don`t see them ever. That`s because i live in Estonia, if you even know where it is :)it`s near finland and russia.
And i just don`t believe FW will ever do a show around here.
But still - it remains the best band ever!!
Posted by Antti @ 04/06/2003 01:53 AM PST
Hey!!! EVERYONE, Let's get our heads out of our asses and stop right now. Oh Mark should do this and Mark should do that, come on people grow up stop being so self servent. Furthermore, all of your opinions are like watching some drummed up war news on CNN or NBC that has no substance what so ever and calls that a fact.
Finally, your attitudes have been frankly "lack-luster" at best. If you don't know what "lack-luster" means then go by yourself a dictionary and look it up. It's cheaper than a Dream Theater album, more useful and better written material.
So, has anyone ever been in a personal situation where you just might have something that might be of greater importance than opening for DT and Ryche? HMMM! Ya just have to ask yourself giving Mark's track record. Phenominal, flawless, top notch, trust worthy and honest...
Just some of the words that describes this man's career, character and he's simply a person that I have known and can call a personal best friend for over 10 years. Anybody ever heard of, moving to relocate? Yeah relocate, better known as moving.
Mike Portnoy to fill in for Mark. Shit! He himself in DT is a bad Neil Peart rip-off artist. Steve Zimmerman, What a fuckin' joke! HAHAHAHA! The guy can't even keep good tempo timing to his own playing.
Yeah right! I would like to see Steve play "Nothing Left Say" or "Part Of A Machine" or how about "One". On stage Steve would look like a "monkey fucking a football".
Hey Jim and Fans around the world, I have a great idea! From what I here the drummer from "Great White" is looking for a job. I heard he's a hot and smokin' drummer. HAHAHAHA!
Good luck with the move to SF Mark.

I realize that Mark is a standup guy and that his word is probably his bond. But, he has a large and growing fanbase that will be VERY disappointed, unless it is for family reasons. Mark's sound and style are integral to Fates Warning and I can't see any other drummer pulling off his drum parts live. Thunderchild, PLEASE reconsider!!!
Posted by Steve Hoffman @ 04/02/2003 07:01 PM PST
I'm pumped for this show... Fates is my favorite band, though I do love all three. Sucks that Mark wont be with the band, but I think its great that Fates will have the two guitar attack again.
Posted by Steve @ 04/01/2003 07:43 AM PST
Very nice everything but I want fates as headliner for a couple of shows in europe and no-one else. It´s too long ago since the band played in the old world.
Bye Georg
Posted by georg @ 03/31/2003 06:39 AM PST
Stop playing with our nerves like that (Oh how nice to have Chris and Frank coming in at the same time. Oh how nice to have Ray and Geoff together on the same stage. We want Mark to play, we want Aresti to play, we want Kevin Moore to play, we want Steve to play...). Please respect the fact that all this is no more than just a dream for all us in Greece/Europe.
We will definitely have Queensryche playing in Summer. We also are expecting to have Dream Theater as well.
It is Fates Warning that we can never be sure about.
I guess that given that the upcoming tour goes well, Fates will be offered a Tour in Europe as well.
Anyway, You lucky guys. You have every right to celebrate...
Posted by John from Greece @ 03/30/2003 11:41 AM PST
This will be the greatest show on earth. I just hope you guys travel up to the Seattle area. We don't get many killer concerts like this. On Dream Theaters last tour they didn't come here due to low cd sales, which sucked. I have seen them 6 times and there last was the first one I had missed. So, please make your way to th north west. Thank You
Posted by Tony Lamb @ 03/30/2003 10:58 AM PST
Please come visit the Midwest...
If at possible, Milwaukee or Chicago. This is a dream for sure! Note to DT & the 'Ryche: PLEASE give Fates w/ Frank ample stage time OKAY??!! Thanks.
Posted by Phil @ 03/30/2003 12:52 AM PST
This is like a dream come true!!!
Ray Alder, and Geoff Tate sharing the same stage...I could never, ever explain how much that means to me. They are my GODS!
Also Frank back with Fates, and Chris back with Ryche...all is once again right in the world of prog-metal.
I bow with nothing but heart felt respect to Jim for keeping Fates going...He's the man!!!
And I give the same respect to ryche for keeping their dream alive for all of us.
This tour will be the greatest tour man has ever known.
Posted by Sean @ 03/29/2003 09:53 PM PST
Why bring "that kickin' sound back?" Millions of drummers can do that (why not just use Portnoy to fill in? you can also play OSI stuff?) That was a joke by the way - Mark Zonder is un-replaceable...drum samples and all! He's also 33.3 % of Fates Warning's permament line up, dont forget! Joey Vera on bass?
Posted by Anthony Nieto @ 03/29/2003 02:40 PM PST
Mark Zonder is a vital component of this tour. Mark, please re-consider because you have a private fan base that would enjoy your performance.
Thanks
Posted by Dave @ 03/29/2003 02:27 PM PST
That probably won't happen.. I don't personally believe Steve could play Mark's parts.. Nothing against Steve, just very different styles..
Posted by Dave @ 03/29/2003 01:12 PM PST
Since Zonder won't be there how bout bringing Steve back...get that kickin sound back to the drums!!!!
