Jim Matheos makes Guitar World's "100 Greatest Metal Guitarists" List

71 - Jim Matheos
Matheos formed Fates Warning as a stright-up metal band, but gradually the group took on a prog-rock direction. Matheos is a technically precise player and a complex individual, as demonstrated on the 1997 release Pleasant Shade of Gray: the title -- indeed, the only -- song is an hour long magnum opus of intricately woven time changes and mystifying chord patterns. Hey, no guts, no glory.
